AVI Audio problems

I’ve tried looking for a solution to this one but getting nowhere. A few films I’ve downloaded in AVI work fine on the computer. So I burn them to CD and put them in my fairly new dvd player (one month or so) and there is absolutely no audio. Anybody have any idea what I would need to encode it with?
