Chalk my last remark up to impatience. It appears that greg’s solution does work.

If it still is a problem for anyone else here’s a detailed solution:
In Internet Explorer click “Tools”, then “Internet Options..." Then Click the “Security” tab. Click “Custom Level” and under any of the “ActiveX” options choose “Enable”

Next open up WMP and play one of the files that is giving you these codec 75 error messages. Then go to the bathroom, read a book, have a snack or whatever until you are able to use WMP again. When you get back, close WMP and repeat the instructions in this paragraph until the file plays.

It might take a few trys, so be patient, and let WMP do all the work.

DO NOT CTRL+ALT+DEL if WMP stops responding, it will eventually start responding again. You just need to be more patient than I was.

I have checked about 50 video files that have been giving me troubles and all of them are working now!

So anyways, thanks greg. The problem wasn’t nearly as “simple” as you made it sound if I had to wait months to find a solution, but it did work out in the end.

ok, guys... greg’s solution is the best one, but to quikly install codec put your Security settings at the lowest level, just to download and install that damn codec 75.
After that, restore WMP default security settings or what you had before.
It works!

I didn’t need to go to any site. Windows Media Player(WMP) found it, downloaded and installed it for me. If you’re running in Windows XP then it should do this for you too as long as you have your Internet Explorer security settings on Low.

I found that by lowering the internet security settings from control panel, to 'Low', i was given an option wether or not to install the codec. Click yes, and it works. grin
