whenever i try to play an avi movie with mp3 audio on wmp 11 vista an error message shows up with:

An audio codec is needed to play this file. To determine if this codec is available to download from the Web, click Web Help.

Then i follow some links and it tells me the identifier for the codec is "-0010-8000-00AA00389B71}"

does anybody know how to find out what the codecs actualy name is or where to download it?

I’m having this same problem. I’m on Vista and WMP 11 trying to play an avi as well. If anyone could help us, i’m sure we’d both be very thankful.
========================
You’ve encountered an error message C00D10D1 while using Windows Media Player. The following information might help you troubleshoot the issue.

Codec is missing
Windows Media Player cannot play the file (or cannot play either the audio or video portion of the file) because the -0010-8000-00AA00389B71} codec is not installed on your computer.

The missing codec might be available to download from the Internet. To search for the -0010-8000-00AA00389B71} codec, see WMPlugins.com.

Thanks,
Jess

OK, the audio is working, but whenever I upload a video from my digital camera to my Windows Vista the audio does not work. My digital camera does not play audio itself. Is this causing the audio to not work on the computer??

I am ready to go back to xp

after downloading windows vista coden, kcdlite and various other codes, unistalling and reinstalling as i go, windows vista will NOT play any .AVI files on my laptop. I install them as administrator, reboot, still nothing. I have tried opening them in winamp, and windows media, nothing. I have surfed the net until 4 am looking for help, and all i am finding are people with the SAME problem i am having, and a bunch of others telling us to get various codecs, none of which seem to fix the issue. Can anyone please advise us oon how to remedy the fact that Vista refuses to play any .AVI file?
